Hanna Gender Center

Dr Dany Hanna

Dr Hanna is dedicated to excellence and perfection.

Dr. Dany Hanna is one of the few surgeons in the United States who performs Gender Affirming Surgery procedures. He is dedicated to operating exclusively on members of the transgender and non-binary (TGNB) community — people who have been historically underserved.

Commitment to the TGNB Community

Dr. Hanna was hand-picked to complete a year-long Gender Affirming Surgical fellowship in the Philadelphia area, a program specifically created to address the medical and surgical needs of patients with gender dysphoria, a condition that can be life-threatening. The fellowship examined all aspects of the perioperative period in intricate detail, a critical time window for successful gender affirmation procedures.

Dr. Hanna expanded on this expertise by traveling to Europe for training on advanced techniques with Dr. Miroslav Djordjevic, a leader in urogenital reconstructive surgery and a distinguished professor at the Medical School of Belgrade University.

Dr. Hanna realizes that Gender Affirming Surgery has a life-changing impact on his patients and is honored to dedicate his entire practice to the TGNB community. With a specialty in urology, he performs the complex construction or reconstruction of existing anatomy to align with an individual’s true gender identity.

Education and Training

Dr. Hanna completed his undergraduate studies at Worcester State University in Massachusetts. He earned his Master in Biomedical Sciences, a field that combines biology and medicine as well as laboratory and discovery research, at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, now Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences.

He then attended medical school at the University of New England’s College of Osteopathic Medicine in Maine, a school that fostered a robust LGBTQ curriculum for medical students. Dr. Hanna served as class president for all four years of attendance and graduated top of his class with a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, a distinct branch of medicine that takes a whole-person approach to hands-on care.

Dr. Hanna completed an internship in general surgery at Hahnemann University Hospital, the first academic medical center in the Philadelphia region to offer a transgender surgical program. He then completed a residency in urology at Bryn Mawr Hospital in Pennsylvania, where he served as chief resident.

Service to Country

In 2005, Dr. Hanna enlisted in the Army National Guard, serving as an infantryman. He was then commissioned as an officer and trained at the US Army Military Intelligence Center of Excellence at Fort Huachuca in Arizona. He went on to serve as a tactical intelligence officer with the 223rd Military Intelligence Company in Massachusetts and later served as the Battalion Surgeon for 1-181st Infantry in the Massachusetts Army National Guard.

As part of his commitment to the TGNB military community, Dr Hanna currently serves as the medical advisor to SPARTA – A Transgender Military Advocacy Organization.
