Orchiectomy Surgery

An orchiectomy is an outpatient genital surgery procedure that involves the removal of the testicles for male-to-female (MTF) and nonbinary transitions. This procedure is a same-day, outpatient surgery and is often performed with general anesthesia. An orchiectomy surgery can reduce or even eliminate the need for hormone therapy, which can make your transition/maintenance process more streamlined.

Personalized Care

Dr. Hanna requires an intensive consultation and evaluation prior to scheduling an orchiectomy surgery. While this is one of the simpler procedures we offer, our team still wants to make sure it’s the best option for you.

If you’re planning a vaginoplasty or breast augmentation, Dr. Hanna may recommend combining all the procedures or letting each one heal over a period of several months to complete your transition. Recommendations are based on your specific situation and goals. Please schedule a consultation for an MTF orchiectomy to start discussing your options with our team.

The Considerate Technique

Where we make the incision is based on your anatomy and desired visual results. During your consultation, Dr. Hanna will conduct a physical exam and discuss the best options with you.

When scheduling an MTF orchiectomy surgery, it’s critical that you select a surgeon who is entirely familiar with transgender anatomy and considerate of any possible future procedures you might be interested in. There are certain surgical approaches that may limit future options for a vaginoplasty. Dr. Hanna regularly performs vaginoplasty procedures and can help select an approach to minimize your risk of future complications with a vaginoplasty, if desired.

In addition to this procedure, Dr Hanna can also perform a scrotectomy which will be discussed during your consultations. Learn more about your options when you visit us in person.
